Kamehameha Hwy. in Kaaawa reopened after crews remove downed pole

KAAAWA,OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 19-year-old man lost control of a pickup truck on Kamehameha Highway in Kaaawa and knocked down a Hawaiian Electric Company support pole around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Honolulu police say.

Neither men inside the vehicle were transported or received treatment, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was a passenger in the truck.

According to HECO, there was no outage caused by the downing of the support pole which was leaning across the road fronting Kaaawa Elementary School.

Kamehameha Highway was closed in both directions while HECO crews removed the support pole and downed wires, but the road was reopened for the morning commute. Crews will return at a later date to replace the pole and reattach the support line.
