ANAHOLA, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A fire ripped through a home in Anahola early Monday, destroying the structure and displacing four people.

Around 4:50 a.m., firefighters arrived to the 4000 block of Anahola Road to find the one-story building -- made up of a three-bedroom apartment and studio -- engulfed in flames.

Robin Avina, her fiance Jesse Fergerstrom and their 7-year-old son, Ryder, were asleep when the fire started, but were able to escape uninjured. Their dog, however, died in the fire. A man who lives in the studio was not home at the time, officials said.

Fire inspectors estimate the blaze caused approximately $400,000 in damages. Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials deemed the fire as an accident. It appears that it started in the carport connected to the studio, county officials said.
