Maui fire department responds to multiple emergencies during power outage

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Firefighters responded to several alarms during a power outage which affected various areas of Maui, Friday afternoon.

Crews were called to four cases of victims trapped in elevators when the outage occurred. 

Three of the cases took place at the Kaahumanu Shopping Center. Units responded to people trapped in elevators at the Macy's Men's Department, center court and within the building located on the west end of the parking lot.

An elevator technician co-responded and was able to release everyone in all three cases.

The fourth case occurred at 505 Front Street. But power was restored while crews were enroute.

At 3:29p.m., Engine 1 from Wailuku responded to reports of arcing at a MECO transfer station located on the corner of Waiinu Rd and Waiale Rd. Upon investigation, arcing was confirmed and MECO representatives were dispatched.

No injuries have been reported.
