HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An investigation is underway after a critical pedestrian accident Thursday night on North Nimitz Highway.
Honolulu police said a woman was hit by a Chevy SUV – which sources said is a rental vehicle -- while trying to cross the highway around 7 p.m. She was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with head and internal injuries.
The woman was not in a crosswalk at the time, police said, and speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was not injured, according to police.
Police had to close off two right lanes in front of Thrifty Car Rental, where the incident occurred.
