LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 24-year-old man has been charged in an assault case that left a man in critical condition, police on Kauai said.
According to officers, Nicholas Char was taunting patrons and punching windows on Monday at Kalapaki Joe's at the Kukui Grove Center.
Char was removed from the restaurant, but re-entered and punched a man in his jaw, causing him to fall to the ground, police said.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 9:45 p.m. to find the 30-year-old victim unresponsive. He was initially transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital but later flown to the Queen's Medical Center on Oahu with life-threatening head injuries.
Char was booked for first-degree assault but was released after posting a $20,000 bail.
The case, however, remains under investigation.
