WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police have reopened all westbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway near the Waipahu off-ramp Monday morning following a multiple-vehicle accident that caused an hours-long traffic standstill.
Police initially closed off all lanes around 7:40 a.m., but later reopened them around 10:30 a.m.
Authorities said a semi-truck, delivery truck and three passenger vehicles were involved in the crash. Four people were transported to an area hospital where one male was listed in serious condition and three other people -- a female and two children -- suffered minor injuries, according to Emergency Medical Services personnel.
A separate accident on Kamehameha Highway before Waimano Home Road in Pearl City around 8:35 a.m. also led to road closures, adding to the traffic gridlock in this area. Authorities have not yet released further information on this particular accident, but lanes have since been reopened.
Traffic cameras showed a major backup through Aiea during all the lane closures.
