It's official: Ulu-Perry signs with UH

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

University of Hawai'i first-year head football coach Nick Rolovich announced on Thursday that local offensive lineman Fred Ulu-Perry has signed a grant-in-aid agreement and will transfer from UCLA to UH in the spring semester.

Arguably the most decorated recruit to join the Rainbow Warriors, Ulu-Perry was ranked No. 69 in the nation by ESPN.com as a senior at Saint Louis School last year, earning the distinction as the No. 1 nationally ranked offensive guard by ESPN and the nation's top center prospect by Scout.com.

Rated as a four-star recruit and First-Team Prep All-American by Scout, Ulu-Perry earned all-state honors in two seasons and was selected to play in the Under Armour High School All-America Game.

In addition, he was named to the PrepStar Top 150 Dream Team, rated as a four-star recruit and the nation's No. 3 center by 247sports.com, as well as a No. 5 center ranking from Rivals.com.

The 6-2, 305-pound freshman also lettered in basketball and track for the Crusaders.

Ulu-Perry, who picked UCLA over Hawai'i out of Saint Louis, earned playing time in eight games this season as a true freshman for the Bruins along the offensive line. He made the switch to fill needs as a defensive lineman, recording three tackles.

While playing in his rookie season at UCLA, Ulu-Perry will not be eligible to play in 2016, sitting out the season under NCAA transfer rules. He will be eligible to play 2017 as a redshirt sophomore with three years to play at UH.
