WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Maui woman is accused of unleashing her caged pit bull on two officers earlier this month.
Officers initially responded to a report of drug activity at the home of the suspect, 23-year-old Sierra Andrade. After Andrade failed to open the door when officers knocked, they then entered her home through a side door that was left wide open.
They located Andrade, who was with another man in a bedroom in the back of the home. She then walked away and opened a cage to release the pit bull, who immediately charged towards the officers. Because there was no room to escape, the officers were forced to shoot the pit bull. The Humane Society later decided to put the dog to sleep due to its severe injuries.
Andrade was arrested and charged for two counts of assault against a police officer. Her bail was set at $10,000.
