HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 24-year-old driver and his 21-year-old passenger are safe on Thursday after their car plunged into the Ala Wai Canal.
Officials said it happened near the intersection of Ala Wai Boulevard and Nahua Street around 2:10 a.m.
The driver told authorities he lost control when trying to avoid hitting a moped.
Both men were able to evacuate and were later treated on scene by Emergency Medical Services. However, they were not taken to the hospital.
As of 5 a.m., the car was still submerged and it's not clear when it will be removed.
