NORTH SHORE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

By Victoria Cuba

A professional surfer was in critical condition after being found unconscious in the water around 11:45 Sunday morning.

Ocean Safety lifeguards responded to the scene at Ehukai Beach, where witnesses say that 22-year-old Evan Geiselman caught a wave but did not resurface.

A nearby bodysurfer, Andre Botha, held onto the surfer, while lifeguards responded from the shore. The surfer was brought to shore, where lifeguards and bystanders pulled him out of the water. He eventually regained consciousness.

EMS took over treatment and transported the surfer to a trauma center.

Surf on the north shore is estimated between 12 to 15 feet.
