Walgreens, which opened its first Hawaii drug store at the former Tower Records on Kapiolani, has sold that property, and the adjacent Heald College offices. Los Angeles investors paid $74 million for it.

A new assistant general manager for the Plaza Club - Bryan Ashlock was culinary operations consultant to the Kahala Resort - and worked before at Turtle Bay, the Sheraton Maui and the Moana Surfrider.

DTRIC Insurance has a new chief financial officer. Ann Nakagawa comes from Hawaiian Insurance and Guarantee, and worked for Grand Pacific Life and Farmers before that.

If you're familiar with the old PKF Hawaii, its consulting business is now called Spire Hawaii.

Recently, Kona Red was expanded beyond nutrition drinks and is now selling its own coffee brand - the company has distribution in Hawaii and now says it's got distribution in Vegas as well.

Virgin America appears to have a triggered a bit of a fare war to and from San Francisco. Hawaiian Airlines has fares not much above $300 to the Bay Area in mid-January, Alaska Airlines is matching.

Don't read too much into it, but fewer than 900 new claims for unemployment last week - state offices were closed for Thanksgiving so the number of claims is always super-low Thanksgiving week.
