KEAAU, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Kamehameha Schools Hawaii elementary students kicked off their 10th anniversary of their annual Pennies for Pauahi giving campaign.

Pennies for Pauahi has collected nearly $9,000 since the campaign began.

For the keiki of Kamehameha Hawaii the fundraising effort instills the concept of kahiau, giving from the heart without the expectation of return, at a young age, so when students are older they understand the importance of giving.

For a week, students collect everything from loose change to dollar bills which then get added up and donated to the Pauahi Foundation for early childhood education scholarships and programs.

The Pennies for Pauahi campaign runs from November 30 to December 4.
