At last check, a brush fire that scorched 15 acres near Piilani Highway on Maui is about 90 percent contained, according to the Maui Fire Department.
Nearly 30 firefighters responded to the fire that was reported around 5:10 a.m. between mile posts 24.5 and 26 on the highway. MFD used two helicopters to provide water drops, while ground crews douse hot spots.
Police closed off the highway in this area, but it has since been reopened.
No structures have been threatened and there were no evacuations ordered.
