Arson investigation withdrawn after fire breaks out from home in Kalihi
KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Honolulu police say a man has withdrawn an arson complaint after fire broke out at a Kalihi home Sunday night.
Around 11:15 p.m., six companies with the Honolulu Fire Department -- about 26 personnel -- were called to the duplex property located at 1008 Rawlins Lane.
It took fire crews about three minutes to get the blaze under control and another eight minutes to extinguish it, HFD officials said.
There were no reports of injury.
Police officers at the scene indicated to Hawaii News Now that there was smoke damage to the interior of the home.
It's unknown how many residents were home at the time, but officials said the family there declined assistance from the American Red Cross in Hawaii.
No damage estimates were available overnight.
Detectives with the Honolulu Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division had opened an arson investigation, which was later withdrawn by a man living at the property because it involved a family member, according to officials.
No other damage was reported to surrounding homes.
