Authorities arrested former major league baseball player Bronson Sardinha of Honolulu for allegedly head butting a police officer.
The incident happened in the parking lot of Nancy's Kitchen in Waipio just before midnight Sunday.
Police say they responded to a report of a man and woman arguing and arrived to find that the car they were driving was involved in a collision.
Sardinha allegedly hit the 49-year-old officer when he intervened, causing bruising and swelling to his cheek.
The 32-year-old faces charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Sardinha played for the Yankees in 2007 and retired from minor league baseball in 2011.
