Strong trade winds will make for a windy night for the island of Lanai and parts of the Big Island, which are under a Wind Advisory until 7 p.m. Monday.
The advisory covers the entire island of Lanai and the Kohala Mountains, including Waimea and surrounding areas, on the Big Island.
Strong trades and a stable atmosphere are accelerating the winds in the mountain areas of those islands to 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts to 50 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said winds this strong can bring down tree branches and make it difficult to drive, especially in high profile vehicles such as SUV's.
