Consumers urged to ‘shop small’ and support local businesses

MANOA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Small businesses in Manoa joined forces for Small Business Saturday.

Choco Lea, Green Mountain, Hawaii Doggie Bakery, Line and Dot Printing, Morning Glass Coffee and Three Dogs and a Girl offered special promotions Saturday in hopes of boosting sales and gaining new clientele.

Small Business Saturday happens every year the day after Black Friday and was created in 2010 by American Express.

“If you’re helping to support small businesses you’re helping to support your community,” said Niki Libarios, co-owner of Hawaii Doggie Bakery.

And though many consumers are familiar with the door busters of big box stores Libarios says that there is a “personal touch” offered at small businesses that cannot be matched elsewhere.

“We get to really know our customers,” said Libarios. “We put a lot of thought into the products that we bring in and the products that we make and they are higher and better quality.”
