Big Island police are searching for a suspect accused of murdering a man in Hilo on Thursday.
At around 10:20 p.m., officers arrived at a home on the 100 block of West Kawailani Street where they found an unresponsive man outside the home with a gunshot wound. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and said a car fled from the scene.
The victim, identified as 39-year-old Keola Penovaroff, was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police have identified the suspect as 34-year-old Kalani Lono Kaohimaunu, whose last known address was in Hilo. He is described as about 5’10”, 160 pounds and has brown hair. He was last seen in Kalapana at 9 a.m. Friday, driving a dark blue Honda four-door sedan.
