Several days of heavy rain triggered two landslides on the Aiea Loop Trail, forcing wildlife officials to close the popular hiking path.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources says several trees came down in the landslides, blocking the trail. Officials decided to temporarily close the hike in Keaiwa Heiau State Recreational Area for public safety reasons.
The mess was discovered Monday by a hiker.
Signs prohibiting access to the hike are now posted at both ends of the loop trail. The park remains open.
