HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police have reopened the two lanes of the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction that were closed earlier due to a vehicle that hit the Gulick Avenue overpass Wednesday morning.
Police said an anonymous female caller reported seeing a vehicle strike the overpass in the second inside lane and flee the scene. Officers said that fresh tire marks were left on the under side of the overpass, leading them to believe that the vehicle had a specialized piece of tire equipment often used by dump trucks that assist them with the safe dumping of their loads.
Chunks of cement debris fell onto the freeway, forcing police to close two inside lanes.
No injuries were reported.
Police are asking construction companies to check their vehicles and have drivers to inspect their trucks for possible damage, and to call 911 to report if they believe their vehicle was involved.
