Police looking for semi-automatic rifles stolen in Waianae

WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police are looking for two semi-automatic rifles that were stolen out of a truck parked along Farrington Highway in Waianae sometime overnight.

Police say the 23-year-old registered owner of the Zastava M-70 semi-automatic rifle and Mossberg .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle had left them in his truck when he parked across from Waianae High School around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. At around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, he noticed his rear window was broken and the guns taken. There was no ammunition taken.

Police have opened an unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle -- UEMV -- case and two first-degree theft cases as a result.

Police are asking that the public be aware that the thief may try to sell the stolen rifles or keep them, but they are registered.

Anyone with information on the car break-in or the whereabouts of the two rifles are asked to call police.
