KANEOHE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Emergency repair work will close Honolulu-bound lanes of the H-3 Freeway this week, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The freeway will be closed between the Likelike Highway underpass and the Halawa Interchange starting Wednesday, Nov. 25 from 7 p.m. through 4 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26.
Currently, the right lane of the H-3 Freeway is closed on the Halawa side, approximately 2 miles from the Harano Tunnel. This lane will remain closed until the repairs are complete, the DOT said.
According to the DOT, a steel expansion joint that helps connect two segments of the roadway is damaged, and the entire roadway needs to be closed in order to prevent vibration while crews are welding.
Windward drivers should consider using the Pali and Likelike Highways as alternatives.
