Interview: Assets School Celebrates 60th Anniversary

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Assets School officially turned 60 on November 2, 2015.  It's a period of celebration for the Assets community

It's also the time of year where Assets partners with Barnes & Noble to raise funds for the school, as well as raise awareness in our community about learning differences and the school.  This year's book fair takes place

Friday, November 20 – Sunday, November 22 from 9 AM to 11 PM at the Barnes & Noble Ala Moana.
o   A portion of the purchases will benefit Assets School.
o   Over the last 10 years, more than $20,000 has been raised to support the school.
o   In addition to the money raised, hundreds of learning materials such as books, CDs, DVDs and games have been added to the classrooms, library and resource center over the years.
o   Each year a wish list for the school is created for the book fair. Students, alumni, parents, past and current, as well as members in the community come to the fair to purchase materials for the school.
o   It has become a highly anticipated and successful event due to the generous support from the community.

Our theme, "60 Years of Learning that Transform Lives," celebrates Assets' mission to create a community in which all children thrive and realize their own potential, so that society benefits from their unique talents and abilities.
