HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A High Surf Advisory is in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau as well as east-facing shores of the Big Island, according to the National Weather Service.
An elevated north-northwest swell will bring surf up to 15 feet to Kauai and Niihau. The advisory is in effect until noon Thursday.
Meanwhile, a belt of strong trade winds east of the island is producing advisory-level surf along east shores of the Big Island. Surf will be between 5 to 8 feet. The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday.
Forecasters say beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
