University of Hawai'i softball head coach Bob Coolen announced his sixth signee for the 2017 season. Laura Jaquez has signed her National Letter of Intent to become the newest member of the Rainbow Wahine softball team.
Jaquez is a 5-8 shortstop out of Andrew Hill High School in San Jose, Calif. In 2015, she earned first team all-league honors. As a sophomore, she hit .760 for the year and posted 38 hits, 36 RBI and 31 runs scored while tallying 11 doubles, five triples, and three home runs in just 13 games. Jaquez was also a perfect 27-for-27 in stolen bases.
"Laura is a quiet, unassuming player on the field," says Coolen. "But she has a gun for an arm and the ball just pops off her bat. She is a physically gifted player with a lot of raw athletic talent. To get someone that can come in at shortstop and from a standing position can throw out any runner from the hole that is amazing. She is just that strong and has a command in that position. I just don't know if she knows how good she can be."
