WAIMANALO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Students at a Waimanalo school are learning a tough lesson about crime.
A large tent that was set up on the Malama Honua Public Charter School campus was stolen overnight.
The 63 students used it every day for their morning protocol, which includes chants and songs. The tent also provided shade during recess.
The thief also stole fish from the school's aquaponics system.
"It's just really sad that they had to learn this lesson, but as all things in life, we're taking it as a learning opportunity and really process with them again about living values and pono choices," said Denise Espania, the school's director.
Police have opened a third-degree theft case.
