A Wind Advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday as strong trade winds buffet the Hawaiian islands.
The National Weather Service said strong high pressure north of the state is bringing strong and gusty trades statewide today and tonight. Northeast to east winds of 20 to 35 miles per hour are expected, with possible gusts to 50 miles per hour.
Localized gusty winds will be strongest along ridge tops and to the west or lee sides of terrain. If you were planning on going hiking in the mountains, it might be a good idea to postpone those plans, as winds will be especially gusty in those areas.
The Hilo area may not be affected by the strong winds, according to forecasters.
Winds this strong can also bring down tree branches and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
