Magnolia Bakery Café Opening in Hawai‘i

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

New York City’s Magnolia Bakery, renowned for its freshly baked, classic American desserts, announces the opening of its first Hawai‘i store, located in Honolulu at the Ala Moana Center. The brand will open two distinct concepts in Honolulu: A Magnolia Bakery Cafe and a Magnolia Bakery. The Magnolia Bakery Cafe will be the brand’s first sit down, full service restaurant in the United States. Patrons can choose from a wide variety of cafe menu items, including egg skillets, red velvet pancakes, pulled pork biscuit sandwiches and seasonal salads, as well as the brand’s iconic handmade desserts. In addition to the cafe, the brand will open a small quick service bakery located next to the restaurant, where patrons can purchase cupcakes, cakes, banana pudding, cheesecakes, cookies, pies and more. Both will open in the new wing of the Center, scheduled for a grand opening on November 12, 2015.

Two young food and beverage executives who were born and raised in Hawai‘i will return to the islands to play key roles in the new establishment, with David Morimoto serving as general manager/sommelier and Jonas Low serving as executive chef.  Morimoto, who grew up on Hawai‘i’s Big Island, attended the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley; Low, who previously worked for Magnolia Bakery in Lebanon, attended the Culinary Arts Program of Leeward Community College and Le Cordon Bleu Patisseries & Baking Program at the Western Culinary Institute in Portland.

“We are very excited to expand the Magnolia Bakery brand in Hawai‘i. We look forward to a great response to our offerings by both the thousands of visitors and local residents who frequent Ala Moana Center. Further, we hope to bring our commitment to community involvement and service to the Aloha State,” said Steve Abrams, CEO, Magnolia Bakery.

Magnolia Bakery, which opened its first location in 1996 in New York City’s West Village, rose to fame after being featured on hit television series “Sex and the City” and “Saturday Night Live,” and the film “The Devil Loves Prada,” among others. Today, Magnolia Bakery has locations around the world, including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles in the United States and Tokyo, Seoul, Moscow, Mexico City, Dubai and Abu Dhabi overseas.
