Investigators: 2-alarm fire at Kaewai Elementary School likely arson

KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Police are investigating a two-alarm fire at Kaewai Elementary School on Sunday as arson. 

About 35 firefighters responded to the blaze in Kalihi, which was reported about 9:30 a.m. It was extinguished by 9:43 a.m.

Firefighters said flames were confined to a storage area in the administration building. There did not appear to be any damage to classrooms.

Fire investigators said the fire appeared to have been started by a match or lighter. It's unclear if any items were taken from the school, located at 1929 Kamehameha IV Rd.

Damage from the fire was estimated at $10,000.
