Judge sentences Thirty Meter Telescope protesters

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A judge has handed down the first sentences for last spring's TMT protests on Mauna Kea.

Linda Lindsey-Kaapuni was sentenced to 100 hours of community service.

Ronald Fujiyoshi asked for jail time instead of community service, and was orginally sentenced to five days, but will only serve one, with the other four days suspended pending no further arrests.

Kaapuni and Fujiyoshi were both found guilty of obstructing Mauna Kea Access Road, which is a petty misdemeanor.

Sources say there are about 20 more cases pending.
