HILO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaii Island police on Friday released 45-year-old Peter Kema, Sr. of Pahoa from custody pending further investigation.

Detectives are still investigating possible drug and firearms charges against Kema and his wife, 45-year-old Jaylin Kema, but they are no longer being held on those offenses. The investigation is the result of items found at the couple's home during the execution of a search warrant on Tuesday.

Jaylin Kema was charged with second-degree theft in connection with a Welfare Fraud investigation and went to court Friday on that charge.

The arrests of the Kemas are not directly related to the unsolved case of their missing son, 'Peter Boy' Kema. He was six-years-old when he disappeared from his Big Island home in 1997. His body was never found, but police concluded that he was murdered.
