Friends and family are remembering a 24-year-old Waianae native who was killed in a car accident on the mainland.

Joshua Endo died Tuesday in a motor vehicle collision in southeast Kansas.

Endo had moved there to take care of his grandparents. He was the seventh of 11 children in his family and was the brother of Waianae High School valedictorian Nathanael Endo, who is now attending the United State Military Academy at West Point.

"We had just taken our son to West Point this summer. For some reason, Josh felt he needed to join us. We had a lot of time with him that way," explained Calvin Endo, Joshua's father.

"He was a kind and gentle giant," said Joshua's mother, Susan Endo. "He was a big man who loved his food. Loved people, to josh around so his name was very appropriate for that. and we remember him just smiling a lot and laughing a lot."

Joshua graduated from Waianae High School in 2008 and got his degree in electronics from Heald College.

He would have turned 25 on November 8.
