WAIALUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A popular bakery in Waialua will be allowed to reopen, now that it has begun to comply with all food safety regulations.

Paalaa Kai Bakery, on Oahu’s north shore, was the first food establishment to fail Hawaii’s new food safety inspections. It received a red placard on Oct. 6 for repeated problems with refrigeration.

Despite being ordered to close, the State Department of Health says the bakery reopened the following day and sold food items. The DOH then fined Paalaa Kai Bakery $10,000.

According to the DOH, Paalaa Kai Bakery has now fixed all of its refrigeration issues and is in compliance with all food safety requirements. Their green placard was issued on Tuesday, allowing the business to reopen immediately.
