Big Island man arrested in connection with Halloween assault

Big Island police have arrested a 31-year-old Puna man in connection with an assault on Halloween night.

Kallen Imade, who was previously sought by police for questioning, turned himself in at the South Hilo station on Tuesday, where he was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Police responded at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of an unconscious man in a parking lot on the 100 block of Hema Street. Witnesses told officers the 49-year-old victim and another man were in a fight, and that the other man had left the area.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center with a head injury and was later transferred to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu where he remains in critical condition.
