BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Dozens gathered in support of Hawaii County firefighter, Yurik Resetnikov, at a concert Sunday night.

Resetnikov was bodysurfing at Sandy Beach on October 12 when he was injured. Doctors say he fractured his spine in two places, the sixth and seventh cervical vertebra and is paralyzed from the chest down.

Resetnikov has been a Hawaii County firefighter since 2008.

Kumu hula and musician Kawika Alfiche performed tracks from his new album at the Mauna Kea Resort on the Kohala Coast. Alfiche’s Halau o Keikialii, based in San Francisco, and Halau Ke Olu Makani o Mauna Loa of Volcano also performed.

“I am so happy to be able to kakoo our Big Island fireman Yurik Resetnikov and his family in this precious time of need,” said Alfiche. “Mauna Kea Beach Hotel along with the support of my halau and my hula brother and sisters na kumu, Emery Lii Acerat, Sammy Kuualoha Young of Hilo and Meleana Manuel of Volcano, we were able to pitch in and do our small part. My brother, Kuulei Alfiche and Yurik, are both firefighters in Kona, so this really hit home.”

All proceeds collected from the concert will go directly to Resetnikov and his family. Alfiche says he will be donating any downloads of his new CD "White Ships" this week to the cause.
