HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Clouds and showers could start the week for Kauai and perhaps Oahu, while the rest of the state will swelter under light winds and muggy conditions.
A surface trough to the west is sparking some thunderstorms in offshore waters to the northwest of Kauai. The trough will produce some unsettled weather for the Garden Isle and could get close enough for unstable conditions on Oahu as well. The current forecast models keep most of the instability just to the west through Monday, but some of the clouds and showers could inch their way closer to the western islands.
Winds ahead of the trough are light and variable with an overall southeast flow bringing up humid air. Expect muggy conditions with afternoon clouds and the possibility of showers for the rest of the state.
High pressure is expected to rebuild and bring trade winds back to the state Tuesday.
