HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

As they have done all season, the Kahuku Red Raiders relied on their defense at Aloha Stadium on Friday night to defeat the Mililani Trojans, 20-7, and secure their first OIA title since 2012.

Kahuku struck first in the opening quarter on a 26-yard run from Harmon Brown just under four minutes into the game. The Red Raiders maintained a 7-0 lead into halftime, but a 27-yard fumble return by Isaac Liva in the third quarter tied the game at 7.

The Red Raiders would go on to score 13 unanswered points to end the game, including a second Brown touchdown and two long field goals from Kekoa Sasaoka.

For the second straight OIA playoff game and sixth time this season, Kahuku's defense did not allow the opposing offense to score a single point, holding the state's most prolific offense to just 180 total yards.

Already down star quarterback McKenzie Milton, freshman back-up Dillon Gabriel suffered a serious shoulder injury in the first half and did not return to the game. Gabriel was seen being carted off the field with a member of Mililani's medical staff, his arm in a sling.

Third string quarterback Kaysen Higa was 3-of-13 passing in relief of the two other quarterbacks, ending the game with more interceptions (2) than yards passing (1).

Vae Malepeai rushed for 92 yards on 16 carries for the Trojans, who did not have another ball carrier end the night with positive yardage.

In celebration of their OIA championship, the Kahuku Red Raiders performed the haka after the game.
