2-alarm fire destroys Nanakuli home

WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A fire that destroyed a Nanakuli home Wednesday night has displaced more than a dozen people.

Reports came in just after 8:30 p.m. where 32 firefighters rushed to the two-alarm fire on Palikea Street.

The flames were so large that crews could only fight the blaze from the outside. Officials say part of the home collapsed from the fire.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 9:20 p.m. and fully extinguished it by 10:30 p.m.

It was reported that 10 people were home at the time, but were able to escape without injuries. The Hawaii Red Cross is assisting the five adults and eight children who have been displaced.

Damages are estimated at $160,000.

It is still unclear what started the fire.
