Nearly 30 dogs rescued from deplorable conditions in North Shore home

HALEIWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Dozens of dogs were rescued Wednesday from squalid conditions at a North Shore home.

Some 29 dogs, including five newborn puppies, were found abandoned at a home in Haleiwa.

Concerned neighbors say they hadn't seen the woman who lives there for days. The Hawaiian Humane Society went to investigate and found the distressed dogs but no owner.

"We found the animals, the dogs there, no food, no water, living in feces all covering the floor while they're living in the house," said Harold Han of the Humane Society.

It is unclear how long the animals were without food and water.

Han also explained the Humane Society made previous attempts to contact and reach out to the owner before removing the animals from the home.

Officials say the dogs are all in good condition and are expected to be okay, though the newborn puppies will require special attention.

The Humane Society will attempt to track down the owner before deciding whether the dogs will be returned to her or put up for adoption.
