Shark spotted near popular surf spot in Waikiki

WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Another shark sighting in Waikiki on Tuesday spooked some surfers out of the water.

Around 5:30 p.m., witnesses say they spotted a 8-10 foot shark at the popular surf spot called, "Threes," in waters off Fort DeRussy.

Rich Elliot, a surfer who paddled back to shore after catching his last wave, says he could tell the crowed became scared.

"About 25 people started paddling back to shore, and the one guy was pretty shook up, the one that really didn't talk much," explained Elliot. "I found out he got nudged, hit by the shark on his board and actually the shark hit him too."

Officials say the surfer wasn't injured. Lifeguards had left for the evening and no shark warning signs were posted.

This is the third shark sighting in Waikiki in three days.

Two were spotted on Sunday, October 25, one off Kuhio Beach and the other was spotted off Kaimana.

Sources say a tiger shark has been spotted near "Threes" for the past three days.
