Man arrested in hit-and-run crash that injured 2 moped riders

KANEOHE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 20-year-old man was arrested late Sunday for a hit-and-run crash that injured two moped riders in Kaneohe, Honolulu police said.

Police said Sene Leilua, the driver of a gray 1998 Toyota, was traveling on Kahekili Highway near Kahuhipa Street at around 8:30 p.m. when he swerved into the moped while trying to get around a stalled car. Leilua initially fled the scene, but police said his girlfriend convinced him to turn himself in. He was later arrested for failure to render aid.

Both victims were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center where the 45-year-old male moped driver was listed in critical condition and the 37-year-old female was in serious condition. None of the victims was wearing a helmet, police said.

Police closed a section of Kahekili Highway during the investigation.
