HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Punahou School special teams ace John 'Jet' Toner has verbally committed to play football next year at Stanford, the two-sport star told Hawaii News Now this week.

After already having received a college football offer from Army, Toner says the chance to attend Stanford was one he simply couldn't pass up.

"I don't think I could ever turn down a school like Stanford," Toner told Hawaii News Now. "It's such a great opportunity, and I'm just really excited to get up there."

Toner, who kicked field goals of 43 and 50 yards in Saturday night's loss to Saint Louis in the ILH championship game, kicked 15 field goals and 45 point-after-touchdowns this football season. He was the Buffanblu's second leading scorer, trailing only senior running back Wayne Taulapapa, who has committed to play next season at BYU.

"You know, as kickers, it's hard to get recruited because you're the last on the list," Toner said. "It all worked out."

Toner will be joined in Palo Alto next season by Saint Louis offensive lineman Nate Herbig, who committed to Stanford earlier this season.
