Pennsylvania woman rescued following injuries sustained while hiking on Pipiwai trail
HANA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A 58-year-old woman was rescued Saturday afternoon following injuries to both ankles during a hike in the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park.
Hana firefighters hiked up the Pipiwai Trail and found the woman at the top of the trail near Waimoku Fall, two miles above the Visitor Center. Firefighters carried the woman part of the way down then drove her by four-wheel drive to Hana Highway where they were met by paramedics.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
The woman was hiking with her husband on the Pipiwai Trail. The couple is visiting from Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania.
