BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Police have located a 100-year-old bronze bell that was stolen from a Buddhist temple on the Big Island, but they are still searching for whoever is responsible for the bold theft.

The bell was recovered on Old Onomea Road at around 4:20 p.m. Thursday.

Around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the Papaaloa Hongwanji, where it was discovered that the large bell had been stolen.

The bronze bell would have taken some effort to steal – it measures two-feet wide and is two-and-a-half feet tall. The value is currently unknown.

Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to call the Police Department at 935-3311. Callers may remain anonymous by instead calling CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
