Senior Tai Manu-Olevao earned Big West Player of the Week honors after leading the No. 8 Rainbow Wahine volleyball team to a pair of conference wins over UC Davis and UC Irvine. It is Manu-Olevao’s first conference weekly honor of her career.
The 6-0 outside hitter recorded a team-high 27 kills in UH’s two matches this past week as the Hawai‘i improved to 18-1 overall and 8-0 in the Big West with a 13-match win-streak heading into their bye week.
The 6-0 outside hitter from Hilo, Hawai‘i and Punahou School was the lone Rainbow Wahine to record double-digits in kills with 12 in UH’s sweep over UC Davis. She hit .375 for the match with just three errors in 24 swings. Manu-Olevao added five digs and two assists as well.
Manu-Olevao recorded a season-high 19.5 points with a team-high 15 kills and a career-high seven blocks in the four-set victory over the Anteaters. Her two solo blocks also was a career-high. She notched her second double-double of the season with 11 digs and 15 kills. For the week, she averaged 3.86 kills, 2.29 digs and 1.00 blocks per set.
Overall, Manu-Olevao is second on the team with 176 kills, third in service aces (11) and third in points (kills + blocks + aces) with 210.0 which averages to 3.28 per set.
Hawai‘i is off this week with a bye and will host its final two home matches of the season on Oct. 30 against UC Riverside and Senior Night will be on Nov. 1 against Cal State Fullerton.
