Injury-depleted Wahine survive scare against Irvine

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Playing without two of their best offensive weapons, the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team earned a hard-fought victory over the Anteaters of U.C. Irvine on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

After winning the first two sets of Saturday's match (25-17, 25-23), the Anteaters rallied to beat UH 21-25 in the third set. Hawaii fought from behind in the fourth set to win 26-24 and end the match.

Junior Nikki Taylor and sophomore Kalei Greeley both missed Saturday's match because of injuries. Junior Tayler Higgins returned to action tonight after spraining her ankle in a match nearly three weeks ago.

Without their top hitter, the Wahine were led offensively with 15 kills from Tai Manu-Olevao. Higgins provided 26 assists in her return.
