HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Renee Sonobe Hong is the state's newest sheriff, sworn in Friday by Public Safety Director Nolan Espinda.

Hong previously worked as a State Deputy Attorney General and served 20 years in the Honolulu Prosecutor's Office.

She replaces Robin Nagamine, who was suspended without pay in July, stemming from the handling of an investigation of a deputy’s DUI arrest.
