LANIKAI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Two suspects were taken into custody Thursday morning in Lanikai after allegedly robbing a Japanese tourist.

Police arrested 18-year-old Hilinai Sitarek and 44-year-old Keoni Bobbit-Villegas, who both face second-degree robbery charges.

Witnesses say two visitors from Japan were riding on the bike path in Lanikai Beach Park around 10:40 a.m. when Sitarek attacked one of the tourists in an attempt to steal his backpack.

The tourist was dragged about 20 to 30 feet before the suspect jumped in a car and drove off.

The getaway car was allegedly driven by Bobbit-Villegas, but good Samaritans followed them to the Aikahi Park Shopping Center where they were arrested.

Officials say the victim suffered a serious gash to the head along with some cuts and bruises.

The two suspects have been released pending investigation.
