Although Nora is a tropical depression hundreds of miles southeast of the Big Island, it will still generate high surf for east-facing shores.

In preparation, the National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for east-facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Forecasters expect surf to reach between 6 to 9 feet through the day.

Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
