Magill wins conference honor as Rainbow Wahine maintain #8 ranking

University of Hawaii middle hitter Olivia Magill was named the Big West Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, as the Rainbow Wahine maintained their #8 ranking in the latest AVCA coaches poll.

Magill led Hawaii at the net this week, averaging 2.38 blocks per set to help the 'Bows improve to 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the Big West. During Hawaii's two matches, Magill recorded a team-high 19 blocks (four solo) while also adding 11 kills and three digs.

Hawai'i is the No. 1-ranked blocking team in the NCAA, averaging 3.40 blocks per set. Magill is ranked No. 5 in the nation and No. 1 in conference with 1.63 blocks per set. She is also No. 34 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the Big West with a .396 hitting percentage.
For the season, Magill leads Hawai'i with 93 total blocks—10 solo—and she holds a team-high .396 hitting percentage with 143 kills in 303 swings with 23 errors.

 This is Magill's second weekly conference honor in her career at UH. Last season as a junior Magill earned Big West Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week on Sept. 8, 2015. 
The Rainbow Wahine will continue their final homestand of the season with two matches this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 16, UH will take on UC Davis and the following day, Oct. 17, the Rainbow Wahine will face UC Irvine. Both matches will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center.
